ROYAL BASTARD

Over a year ago, we collaborated with Secret Spirits to procure a barrel of 13-year-old Royal Brackla. Upon its arrival in the warehouse, we "teaspooned" it to change its classification from "single malt" to "blended malt," allowing shipment to us.

"Teaspooning" involves adding a teaspoon of another single malt to create a blend, facilitating the shipment of blended scotch outside Scotland in a tote. Single malt cannot be exported.

It took another 6 months to transfer it to our distillery, where we briefly aged it in a used bourbon barrel (formerly holding MGP bourbon, Eleanor), then returned it to the tote.

Finally released in December 2019, the proceeds funded the acquisition of a new still for the distillery.

We've long needed to upgrade from our current 26-gallon pot still, aptly described as "baby's first still." We're eyeing a 100-200 gallon pot still. Funding options include outside investment, a bank loan, or inviting you to join us in buying Crowded Barrel a new, adult-sized still.

The half bottles of Royal Bastard sold for $90, and all proceeds will directly upgrade our distillation process, enabling us to craft genuine whiskey together.

As a token of gratitude, each buyer's name will be engraved on an individual baby barrel stave, mounted on the ceiling above the new still—a testament to your role in our whiskey-making journey.
